When people hear about lab created diamonds, lab grown diamonds, and synthetic diamonds, they often think of fake diamonds. However, this is far from the case. Lab created diamonds, lab grown diamonds, and synthetic diamonds are much more alike to earth mined diamonds than one would think in many areas.
1. TERMINOLOGY
Maybe you've wondered about the difference between synthetic diamonds, lab grown diamonds, and lab created diamonds. While these may sound like they are completely different, they are different words all describing the same thing! A diamond that was created by humans, using extreme pressure and heat inside a machine.
2. CREATION PROCESS
Lab grown diamonds are not new, GE first created lab grown diamonds in 1954 for industrial use. The process starts with a single diamond crystal seed that blossoms into a large rough diamond, as carbon atoms grow around it. The process takes 6-10 weeks, after which point, the course is the same as a natural diamond mined from the ground. When finished, lab grown diamonds will look and have the exact same characteristics as a natural diamond that took between 1 to 3.3 billion years to form.

4. PHYSICAL, OPTICAL, AND CHEMICAL
Lab created diamonds are physically, optically, and chemically the same as a mined diamond. This means that they are made of the same material, have the same chemical components, and look the same as a mined diamond. Lab grown diamonds are just as hard and scratch resistant as mined diamonds and are cut with the same precision mined diamonds are. In fact, each one comes with a laser inscription and a report.
5. PRICE
Not only do lab created diamonds look and wear the same way as a mined diamond, they cost less than a mined diamond. You can get a 20-40% larger lab grown diamond for the same price as a mined diamond!
6. COLOR
The one difference in appearance between a lab created diamond and a mined diamond is the color. When earth mined diamonds get lower in color, they get warmer, or more yellow. Lab created diamonds have a pinkish brown undertone instead. However, WD Diamonds is consistently growing diamonds in the "D to K" color grades with their advanced laboratories.
7. CLARITY
Just like in mined diamonds, color varies in lab created diamonds. However, clarity is usually on the higher side of the scale, typically SI (slightly included, yet eye clean) or better. They usually are not lower than that due to the way they're grown.
